Resident Life

On this page:

Hobbies

We have a diverse group of residents with a variety of interests and hobbies. Whether you enjoy trivia night, board games, joining a sports team (Wright State Intramurals), online gaming, or having a nice grill-out with friends, there are current residents who would love to join. We consider Wright State to be a “small big program” in that we have all the resources of a large university, yet everyone is individually known and a part of our residency family.

Living in Dayton

Housing is very affordable, and residents have both rented apartments and bought homes. Dayton also has an abundance of dog parks for your canine roommates. The majority of residents and their families live in downtown Dayton or in the suburbs of Beavercreek and Kettering. General rule of thumb is everything is about 15 minutes away with minimal traffic.

Local Attractions

Within the city of Dayton, there are many venues for recreational activities. For theatre goers there is the Schuster Performing Arts Center. Dayton is home to the Dayton Dragons, a minor league baseball team with a stadium downtown. If you desire a pint of beer, then visit one of the many local breweries! There are multiple parks and sites for hiking, biking, and kayaking. Dayton is also at the center of the largest paved trail network in America, including nearly 300 miles of interconnected bikeways between Cincinnati, Dayton, and Xenia.

Wellness Committee

Run by Chiefs and residents, the committee’s primary focus is to improve resident experiences in our program. In addition to optimizing resident wellness at each of our 3 sites of inpatient practice, the committee organizes recreational and service events throughout the year.

Resident Retreats

During the final months every year, each class has a retreat for recreation and team building. These retreats are also educational. R1s learn how to transition to being senior residents, R2s learn career skills, financial planning and how to prepare for fellowship, and R3s provide feedback to the program and celebrate with their fellow R3s before graduation.
