All applications should be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). While we preferentially review applications from those who signal our program, we also consider applicants who do not signal us. Interviews are scheduled by invitation from October through December. Residency positions are filled through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Our typical candidate has both USMLE, or equivalent COMLEX, scores above 210 or “pass” on the first attempt, OR a letter of support from a U.S. medical school or hospital faculty member related to time spent on a clerkship, externship, or observership.
International graduate applicants will not be considered for interview without results of all USMLE steps. If an international applicant has graduated from medical school, the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) must report completed/verified medical education credentials before the applicant will be considered for interview. U.S. clinical experience is preferred but not required. Candidates must have U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
Military Student Applications
Welcome to the Internal Medicine Residency at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM). Our residency is a 36-month training program designed to provide comprehensive training to the next generation of Air Force internists. Our program is the largest fully integrated residency program, accepting ~15 military residents/year. Our unique relationship with BSOM allows our residents to learn and train at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Miami Valley Hospital (regional Level 1 trauma center), and the Dayton VA Medical Center. This breadth provides excellent training, diverse patient populations, and comfort in varying clinical settings. Residents receive extensive experience in inpatient medicine, critical care medicine, outpatient clinic, and internal medicine subspecialties. We additionally offer a unique military curriculum along with rotations at the Miami Valley medical and surgical ICUs.
Our residency requires completion of one scholarly project for graduation. To present your scholarly work, we will sponsor travel to national conferences and our American College of Physicians (ACP) chapter meetings. Most recently, 11 residents competed at the National Army/Air Force ACP chapter meeting, receiving first prize for original research, quality improvement, and high-quality care.
Our program has implemented a 12-month longitudinal case-based learning curriculum structured upon American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) core objectives. All residents will be provided a roadmap to ensure preparedness for independent practice in a multitude of settings. Our robust wellness curriculum consists of resident retreats, forums, and dedicated wellness days.
