Our program has a curriculum based on the Pediatric Hospital Medicine board content specifications. We have a robust didactic curriculum in conjunction with the Pediatric Residency Program. We offer morning report during weekdays, daily lunch lecture, resident led, and fellow led case conferences, resident led, and fellow led Morbidity and Mortality presentations, fellow led journal club and opportunities for fellow led grand rounds.
Our curriculum boasts a rapid paced graduated autonomy based on the fellow’s readiness and comfort level.
Curriculum Program Details
Education Units are 4 weeks long.
- 13 Educational Units (blocks) per year
- Our program will allow the fellow to customize 32 weeks (8 full Educational Units) to achieve their individualized educational goals with the guidance of their faculty advisor.
- For rotations that are 2 weeks long and are designated as an Individualized Education (I.E) block, the fellow can choose to extend their rotation to 4 weeks to achieve their individual education goals.
Systems Improvement and Scholarship (S&S)
- Each fellow must complete a scholarly project in accordance with the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) program requirements. The Scholarly Project will allow the fellow to develop and test a hypothesis, gather, and analyze data, and present their scholarly work in oral and written form. The program will support the fellows with guaranteed enrollment in a Dayton Children’s Quality Improvement Course, and will be given 32 weeks to conceptualize, execute, and present their project.
- The program will host an annual “Fellow’s Research Day” where fellows can present their work in written and/or oral format.
- Examples of ABP scholarly activities and topics include the following: basic clinical or translational biomedicine, health services, quality improvement, education, advocacy, public health, biomedical research, critical meta-analysis of literature, systemic review of clinical practice, and curriculum development with assessment component.
- Examples of ABP approved written work product include peer reviewed publication, in depth manuscript of completed project, and thesis or dissertation in written connection with advanced master’s degree.
PHM Fellowship Year 1 Scholarly Activity Goals
- Select area of interest.
- Initiate project and start data collection.
