A Message from Interim Dean Toussaint

Dear BSOM Community,

The mission of BSOM is to “transform lives through our commitment to outstanding education, innovative research, community partnerships, and exemplary clinical care,” and to “amplify diversity and belonging as we advance health in Ohio’s communities and beyond.”

Simply put, we exist to build the future of medicine, by educating outstanding physicians who will serve the state of Ohio and our communities. That is quite a responsibility, and to ensure BSOM’s success in this endeavor, we engage in a process of continual quality improvement in everything we do.

As part of our dedication to quality, we commit to compliance with standards set by the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME). Information about the purpose of the LCME, and its importance, can be found here https://lcme.org/about/.

We will be hosting our LCME site visit during the academic year 2024–25. To that end, we have officially kicked off our preparatory process with the Dean’s Town Hall presentation on March 9, 2023.

Ngozi Anachebe, M.D., Pharm.D., Vice Dean for Educational Affairs, will serve as our Faculty Accreditation Lead, and Amber Todd, Ph.D., Assistant Dean for Medical Education and Accreditation, as our Site Visit Coordinator. Drew Dieckman and John Folk, M.D., Ed.D., Associate Dean for Medical Education, will also be serving in leadership roles in this process.

To prepare, we will be engaging in a self-study process that will involve all segments of our community, including faculty, staff, and students. We are forming five self-study committees which will report to a steering committee. An independent student committee will also analyze all aspects of the school from a student’s-eye view. I look forward to this process because it provides an opportunity for improvement by working together as a team. ALL of us at BSOM will engage with the process, because by doing so, we live our mission.

You will be hearing me speak about this and provide updates frequently over the next few years.

I welcome any questions you may have, and once again, I thank you for all that you do for the Boonshoft School of Medicine and our students.

Sincerely,

Gregory Toussaint, M.D.
Interim Dean, Boonshoft School of Medicine
